Funeral Services Will Be Held At 2:30 Sunday Afternoon At Residence
Louis H. Jokisch, prominent farmer of the Bluff Springs community died at 8:05 o'clock this morning at his home one mile south of Bluff Springs. He was 87 years, 1 month and 14 days of age.

The body was brought to the Simpson Home for Services to be prepared for Burial. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock.
     Sunday afternoon at the late residence. The Rev. A. E. Ashton will be in charge.
Mr. Jokisch was born March 15, 1851 at Beardstown, the son of C. T. Jokisch and Mary Ellen Jokisch. In early childhood his family moved to a farm near Arenzville where he attended the West Point school. He was graduated from the Beardstown high school with the class of 1868 and then attended Central Wesleyan college at Warrington, Mo., graduating in 1871.
     Immediately after graduation he began teaching in the schools of Centralia, Illinois. He continued teaching in Centralia thirty years until the death of his father and then returned home to assume the responsibility of helping his mother manage the farm home where he had since resided.
      He with his sister Cora had maintained the home there for a number of years following the mother's death.
     He is survived by two sisters Miss Jokisch, Cora  XE "Jokisch, Cora"  at home, Mrs. Charles Jones and one brother, Albert Jokisch of Bluff Springs, together with 27 nieces and nephews and 33 grandnieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and the following brothers and sisters. Mrs. Philipena Blohm, Edward, George, Mrs. Emma Wilson, Mrs. Elizabeth Hageman, John, Ida, and Richard.
        The decedent had spent the greater part of his life in the Bluff Springs community where he was respected for his honesty and integrity. He was familiarly known to many as Uncle Louis.
        He maintained a great interest in music and while in Centralia was a member of the city orchestra for many years, being able to play a number of different instruments.

Funeral For Louis Jokisch Is Held
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the late residence near Bluff Springs for Louis Jokisch, who died Friday. The Rev. A. E. Ashton was in charge.
Mrs. E. T. Hunter and Mrs. Tillie Schweer, accompanied by Miss Hazel Yockey, sang "Nearer My God to Thee" "Lights of Home" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul".
Pallbearers were Charles Blohm, Arthur Jokisch, Rudolph Jokisch, Richard Wilson, Edward Jones and Fred Jones. Mrs. Howard Tink, Mrs. Mae Newell, Mrs. Emma Hageman and Miss Dorothy Jones cared for the flowers.

A. W. Jokisch, Aged 91, Dies
Albert W. Jokisch, prominent farmer of the Bluff Springs vicinity, died at 9:30 o'clock this morning at his farm home one mile south of Bluff Springs. he was 91 years of age last July.
      Although in failing health for some time he had been bedfast only for the past two weeks.
      The funeral is to be held at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Bluff Springs Methodist church. Burial will be in the city cemetery.
      Surviving are the wife, Jennie: six children Arthur, Mrs. Florence Bins, Rudolph, Mrs. Alma Tink, Miss Bertha Jokisch and Mrs. Laura Clayton: and two sisters Miss Cora Jokisch and Mrs. Tillie Jones, all of the Bluff Springs neighborhood.
      The family will receive friends who wish to view the body at Cline's Funeral Home tomorrow evening between 7:30 and 9 o'clock

Germany, Sept. 13, 1822; son of Arnoldi, Gustave XE "Arnoldi, Gustave"  and Margaret (Endris)  .  Gustave Arnoldi, who was an Inspector of Forests, died in Germany, in 1834; his wife also died in Germany, in 1872; they had seven children. 

      Our subject attended school for seven years in Germany, where he began life as a farmer, which occupation he has pursued since he came to this country.  In this county, March

7, 1850, he married Winhold, Amelia X , a native of Germany, born April 13, 1833, daughter of Winhold, William and Barbara ; from this marriage six children have been born:  Bertha, Ferdinand (deceased), Gustave, Arnoldi, Jennie , Ella, and an infant (deceased).  Mr.

Arnoldi is a member of the Lutheran Church; he is a Republican.

Arthur E. Jokisch

Arthur E. Jokisch, 87, of Bluff Springs, died at Schmitt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown Sunday at 10:20 p.m. He had entered the hospital on Jan. 18.

Mr. Jokisch was born near Bluff Springs on Dec. 28, 1881, the son of Albert and Jennie Arnoldi Jokisch. He was married to Maude M. Lee on Jan. 31, 1912. To this union three daughters and a son were born. His wife passed away on November 20, 1923.

Mr. Jokisch was again married to Meda E. Lee on October 14, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one son in infancy, and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Meda; two daughters, Mrs. Maxwell, Ben  "Bernice" "  of Champaign, and Mrs. Jackson, Allan   "Alta"  of Pound Ridge, New York; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Rudolph Jokisch, Bluff Springs; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Tink and Mrs. Laura Clayton of Virginia; one aunt; three nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Jokisch was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bluff Springs where services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., The remains will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Thursday to lie in state.

Friends may call at the Cline Funeral Home Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. There will be no formal visitation with the family.
Burial will be in the Cline Perpetual Care Section of the city cemetery

"A general farmer of Cass County, residing in township 17, range 9, is one of the very substantial men of this section and belongs to one of the old pioneer families of 1835. He was born near Arenzville, Cass County, November 2, 1858, and is a son of Charles Traugott and Mary (Carls) Jokisch.

                    The father was born in Saxony and the mother in Hanover, Germany, and they accompanied their parents to the United States and were married in Illinois, afterward settling near Bluff Springs in Cass County, where the mother yet lives, the father being deceased. His business was farming. They had the following children: Louis H., who lives at Bluff Springs; Philipina and Edward, both of whom are deceased; Albert W. and George Frederick, both of whom live in Cass County; Emma, who is Mrs. Charles Wilson, of Virginia, Ill.; Mrs. Elizabeth Hageman, who is deceased; John, who died aged three years; Richard, who lives at Bluff Springs; Cora, who resides with her mother; Tillie, who is Mrs. Charles Jones, of Bluff Springs; and Ida, who is deceased.

                    Jokisch, George Frederick XE "Jokisch, George Frederick"  attended the district schools in boyhood and remained at home assisting his father until his marriage, after which he lived one year on his father-in-law's farm and then spent two years south of Virginia and two years south of Philadelphia, afterward renting his present farm for two years, when he purchased 280 acres, 200 of which lie in Cass and eighty in Morgan County. When the farm came into his possession he began to make improvements and remodeled all the buildings then standing and erected others and has the whole place in fine condition. General farming has been his main industry and he also raises Poland China hogs. Since the spring of 1914, his son Louis works the land in Morgan County, while his son Fred gives his assistance on the home place.

                    On November 2, 1882, Mr. Jokisch was married to Lee, Anna Mary XE "Lee, Anna Mary" , who was born at Bluff Springs, April 1, 1862, a daughter of Lycurgus and Luvina (Ream) Lee. Mrs. Jokisch died February 2, 1914, the mother of the following children: Eva, who is the wife of Arthur Reynolds, of township 17, range 9; Louis, who lives in Morgan County; Mary, who is the wife of Frank Newell, in Morgan County; and Fred, who lives with his father. Mr. Jokisch attends the Methodist Episcopal church. In his political views he is a progressive Republican. He has many friends over Cass and Morgan Counties and is fraternally identified with the M.W.A. of Ashland and the Court of Honor, of Prentice, in Morgan County. A. Lee Reynolds, 81, of Virginia, died Sunday evening, February 24, at his residence.
              He was born September 7, 1920, in Cass County (near Philadelphia), the son of Arthur R. and Eva O. Jokisch Reynolds. He married Carrie Mae Sidebottom on August 28, 1950, in Pochantas, AK, and she survives.
He also is survived by two sons, Don Reynolds (wife Kay) of Virginia and Bill Reynolds of Virginia; two grandsons; twin granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.
Mr. Reynolds was a lifelong resident of Virginia and graduated from Virginia High School in 1938. He worked for the Virginia Gazette prior to serving with the US Navy from 1942-1946, stationed at the Panama Canal. Following World War II he purchased the Peterson Service Station on the square in Virginia, which is still operated today by his two sons. He opened a second gas station and convenience store on the south end of Virginia in 1982 and continued to work then until August 2001.
              A devoted mason, Mr. Reynolds was a long time member of Virginia Lodge #544 AF & AM where he was past master, recently installed again as Worshipful Master, and had served as the lodge's secretary for 27 years. He was also a member of the Adah Robinson Chapter #276 Order of Eastern Star, Ansar Shrine, and Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite and was named an honorary member of several area Masonic lodges. In addition, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Virginia and a sponsor and avid fan of the Reynolds & Sons softball team. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.
              Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial gifts are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, Virginia Park System or Virginia Masonic Lodge #544.

Carrie Mae Reynolds, 88, of Virginia, IL died Friday evening, November 13, 2009 at her residence.
              She was born March 3, 1921 in Cass County, IL; the daughter of Frank O. and Hazel M. Bell Sidebottom. She married Lee Reynolds on August 28, 1950 in Pocahontas, AR and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2002.
She is survived by two sons, Don Reynolds (wife, Kay) of Virginia and Bill Reynolds of Virginia; four grandchildren, Mike Reynolds (wife, Julie), Paul Reynolds (wife, Amy), Andrea Winland (husband, Mark), and Melanie Reynolds, all of Virginia; five great grandchildren, Chloe, Samantha, Hailey, Megan, and Steve Reynolds; and a brother, James Sidebottom (wife, Waseta) of Palm Harbor, FL. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis A. Sidebottom and a sister, Neva Fae McTucker (surviving husband, Richard of Barry).
              Mrs. Reynolds attended Sugar Grove country school and was a 1939 graduate of Virginia High School. She worked at the Birnbaum Grocery and Meat Market from 1940 to 1942 and at the Virginia Building and Loan office and the Henry McDonald Insurance Agency until 1951. She then assisted her husband in their service station and car wash businesses until August of 2001. She was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church and the Adah Robinson Chapter #276 Order of Eastern Star, where she formerly served as Worthy Matron.
              Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call after 3:30 PM Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Catherine Jokisch who died at Our Saviour's hospital Saturday at 4:45 a.m. were held Monday morning at St. Augustine's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Vincent Heraty officiating.
          Mrs. Jokisch was born in Morgan County, August 13, 1885, the daughter of Newell, John J. and Mary Collins XE "Newell, John J. and Mary Collins" . She married Louis Lee Jokisch June 1908 in Ashland.
          She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Five children survive; Mrs. Lucille Blank, Springfield: Newell Jokisch of Ashland: Mess Anna Rose Jokisch of Ashland: Mrs. Margaret Mieir, New Berlin and Mrs. Muriel Baker, Montgomery, Alabama: one brother, Frank Newell of Ashland: two sisters Scheferkort, Mrs. Alberta XE "Scheferkort, Mrs Alberta" , Ashland and Freitag, Mrs. William , Delphi Ind. Twelve grandchildren and four Great-grandchildren also survive.

          He is survived by one son, Louis L. Jokisch of Ashland: one daughter, Mrs. L. W. Anna Rose Jockisch, 1913-2007, Virginia

Anna Rose Jokisch, 93, of Virginia, and formerly of Ashland, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, 2007, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
She was born Oct. 25, 1913, in Morgan County, the daughter of Louis L. And Rose C. Newell Jokisch.

She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Meier of New Berlin and Muriel (husband, Marshall) Baker of Alexandria, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers,

Louis Lyle, in infancy and Newell; and one sister, Lucille Blank.

Ms. Jokisch attended Illinois College and graduated from Western Illinois University. Upon graduation, she embarked upon a 43-year teaching career which included Crow's Point and Yankeetown Country Schools and Ashland and Pleasant Plains Grade Schools.

 She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the church's Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of Ashland Woman's Club. An avid reader, she also enjoyed bird watching and traveling. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashland with burial in St. Augustine Cemetery in Ashland. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Ashland, where a prayer service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Augustine Church, Ashland U-Help, Inc., or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.

CHARLES WILSON DIES AT HOME HERE WEDNESDAY
Services to be held at Local Church March 15, 1939
Funeral services for Charles Wilson, 85, prominent resident of this city, who passed away at his home here early Wednesday morning following several weeks illness with influenza, will be held this afternoon at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church with Rev. W. S. Neely officiating.
        Mr. Wilson was born on August 13, 1853 in the Sugar Grove neighborhood, east of Virginia, the son of Thomas William and Margaret Coates Wilson. On September 3, 1880, he was married to Emma Melinda Jokisch, who preceded him in death by five years. He departed this life March 15, 1939, at the age of 85 years and eight months.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Nelle Harper of Ebenezer, and four sons, Lee Roy, Charles Richard, principal of the Virginia High School, Halburt and Carl, one sister, Mrs. Mary Buckley, and one grandson, Robert Kehl.
        Mr. Wilson served a long and useful life in Virginia. After completing his education at Illinois College in Jacksonville, where he was a roommate of William Jennings Bryan, he started his career as a teacher in the public schools of Cass County. For many years he operated a fruit farm north of this city and he had engaged in at least a half dozen different lines of business on the public square, remaining active until his last illness.
        He united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church of this city sixty five years ago. Perhaps the public service of which he was most proud was the thirty-three years which he had served as member and secretary of the Board of Education of the Virginia high school.

Edward L. Jones, 1911-2007, Bluff Springs
        Edward L. Jones, 95, of Bluff Springs, died Monday afternoon Feb. 19, 2007, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
        He was born April 15, 1911, in Bluff Springs, the son of Charles F. and Otillia M. Jockisch Jones. He married Carls, Glenna in 1935, in Decatur, and she preceded him in death in 2001.
        He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (husband, Dean) Mohring of Rockton and Carole (fiancé', Ed Brannan) Perry of Bluff Springs; five grandchildren, Susan Starr and Karen Berg, both of Littleton, Colo., Linda Walker of Orlando, Fla., and Stephen Perry and Greg Perry, both of Bluff Springs; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Robert; and two sisters, Elenora Tolson and Dorothy Jones.
        Mr. Jones was a member of Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. He spent most of his life as a farmer in the Bluff Springs area until his retirement. After retiring he worked construction. He was a member of various boards, which include president of Bluff Springs and Brick School boards, president of Cass County Regional School Board, member of Cass County Farm Bureau Board, member and chairman of Cass County Board, member of the board of the Bluff Springs Farmers Elevator Co., and past 4-H leader.
        Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at a later date. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

Adam L. HAGEMAN was born February 26, 1857, on the farm which he now owns. Here he grew to manhood, and was educated. His father, Isaac Hageman, was born in Schuyler county, Pennsylvania, in 1809, of English and Scotch ancestry. His wife was Susanna Lischy, born in York county, Pennsylvania, in 1813, of German and Scotch ancestry.

                They were married in 1837 in Ohio, and removed to Illinois in 1839. They settled on the farm where their son now lives in Monroe precinct, Cass county, Illinois, where both died, the father in 1873 and the mother in 1883. They had eight children: Jesse, William, Emanuel, Noah, Miller, Adam, Amanda and Sarah. All the children except Jesse were born on the old homestead in Monroe precinct. He was born in Ohio. Mrs. Hageman was raised in the Lutheran faith, but after marriage she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church with her husband. Both were consistent members of that church at their death and were respected by all.

                Adam bought out the other heirs and now owns the old homestead. The farm comprises 422 1/2 acres of farming land well adapted to stock-raising. There are sixty acres of timber on the land. He has rented the farm for five years. Next year he purposes moving his family to Virginia to live in comfort and ease. He is a Republican in politics.

            He was married to Miss Lizzie Jockisch of Bluff Springs, Cass county, Illinois, born May 20, 1865, he being thirty years of age. Her parents were Charles T. and Eleanora (Carls) Jockisch, who were very early settlers of Bluff Springs. To Mr. and Mrs. Hageman have been born four children, three of whom are living: Mary Eleanora, Emma Madora, Effie Cornelia and a son who is yet unnamed. Effie C. is the one not living.

            Mrs. Hageman is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and both she and her husband are worthy people.

            Orville Lee "Skip" Hageman, 1936-2008, Beardstown
Orville Lee "Skip" Hageman, 71, of Superior, Wis., and formerly of Beardstown, died early Friday morning, Jan. 18, 2008, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minn.
            He was born Feb. 11, 1936, in Beardstown, the son of William "Burr" and Helen Orr Hageman. He married Becky Ullan on July 20, 1989, in Superior, Wis., and she survives.
            He is also survived by four daughters, Becky (husband, Jim) Young of Virginia, Terri (husband, Les) Farwell of Beardstown, Cindy (husband, Scott) Cantrall of Andrew and Tonia Murray of Brainerd, Minn.; two sons, Tracy (wife, Linda) of Beardstown and Tim (wife, Nancy) of Big Lake, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Jack (wife, Pat) of Beardstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister.
            Mr. Hageman attended Beardstown High School and was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany. He was employed at Beardstown Flour Mill and Bell Telephone in Beardstown. In Superior, he was employed at Famous Foods and retired from the City of Superior. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1239 in Beardstown and the Color Guard of Superior, Wis., and was past president of the vocalizers of Duluth, Minn. He was also involved with the Men's Country Pool, VFW Golf and Superior Bowling Leagues. He coached Little League in Beardstown and Superior for many years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and relaxing outside. His greatest pleasures were his children, grandchildren and friends.
            Private services will be held at Soldiers Square at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, Wis., at a later date. Cremation Society of Minnesota in Duluth, Minn., is in charge of arrangements.
